WELCOMING YOU TO BEAMA
It is said that, “you can get out of Africa but Africa cannot get out of you”.
So it is with this ethos that a minority community of East African Muslims have made Great Britain their home. In order to continue and grow the cultural, social, sporting and networking traditions amongst themselves, and their future generations, they have founded BEAMA (British East African Muslims Association). Members can convey their rich heritage, share knowledge and stories of their ancestors who began settling in East Africa from the 19th Century. Travelling on dhows, these pioneers made a one way journey into the unknown jungles of Africa. However, with their knowledge, skills, hard work and determination they created communities, lifestyles and aspirations. And so we carry on, inspired by the lessons from the old, wise ones.
